mass effect Dec 10
In 2012, I heavily anticipated the release of Mass Effect 3. I had told a lot of people that this series was my Star Wars - in terms of fandom, anyway. In spite of the bad taste that ME3's ending left in my mouth, the series still remains unsurpassed as my favorite science fiction setting in space.
By the time ME2 was released, I had already logged a few dozen playthroughs of the first game on Xbox 360 and on PC. I haven't seriously revisited the series since my only playthrough of ME3, so I decided it would be a good game to test on the new rig.
Initial testing of the game proved promising. At 1920x1080 resolution, I was able to crank up the graphics settings all the way and still maintain a stable 60fps. Not surprising, since the 750ti was released in 2014, a good seven years after the game's initial release. The card I used to play the game when it was first released was a 9600 GT with 512MB of VRAM. A quick comparison of the two cards shows that the 750ti performs as much as 5 times as well as the 9600 GT in modern benchmarks.
Since the game performed so well, I decided to look into graphical enhancements for the game, since I had seen a few mods released in recent years. This was how I discovered MEUITM. It's a pretty extensive modification to the graphical resources in the game, and really gives it a much more modern feel.
I didn't test the game for too long with these mods enabled on Ultra, but I remember dips into the low forties for framerates. By reducing the graphics settings fromr Ultra to High, I am able to maintain a pretty consistent 60fps, with dips into the high fifties, all while still having a look that surpasses the original game on Ultra settings.
Overall, I am very pleased with this build's performance with respect to Mass Effect, and I am looking forward to completing the whole series again. As Mass Effect 2 was easily my favorite of the series, I am excited to see how well it performs, but I'll probably wait until I finish a couple of playthroughs of the first.
